Higher-power tools such as leaf-blowers, lawnmowers, rakers, chain saws and snowblowers often require high torque to turn the blades / fans, so are ideal to transition from gas-powered to electric motors.
In October 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom of California signed a bill (AB-1346) that will phase out gas-powered leaf blowers and other gas-powered equipment by 2035, accelerating an already fast upgrade to electric motors. The bill is targeted to eliminate 16.8 tons per day of NOx and 125 tons per day of reactive organic gases, and has the added benefit of reducing noise. Over 100 municipalities in the US already have noise-abatement laws targeting gas-powered equipment.
