Industry Icon Validates Disruptive Opportunity for GaN power ICs
DUBLIN, Ireland –(PRWeb)— Navitas Semiconductor today announced that Mr. Lip-Bu Tan,
Founder and Chairman of Walden International, Founding Managing Partner of WRVI Capital, and CEO of Cadence Design Systems, Inc., has joined Navitas as a strategic advisor and investor.
Gallium Nitride (GaN) is a next-generation power semiconductor technology that runs up to 100x faster than old, slow silicon chips, with dramatic improvements in energy savings and power density. Navitas’ GaNFast power ICs integrate GaN power (FET) with drive, control and protection to enable 3x faster charging in half the size and weight. Tier-1 OEMs including Lenovo, Xiaomi, OPPO and NVIDIA have adopted GaNFast power ICs for their next-generation smartphone, tablet and laptop chargers.
“Lip-Bu is a pioneer in technology investment, with rich experience and an impressive track record of investing in, supporting and helping semiconductor companies navigate and create extraordinary growth and market leadership,” said Gene Sheridan, Navitas’ CEO. “We are excited to welcome him to Navitas and believe his deep industry influence, insights and connections will accelerate Navitas’ market and financial success.”
“Navitas is the leader in the fast-charging GaN power semiconductor field and I’m very happy to join this impressive company as a strategic advisor and investor,” said Mr. Tan. “I look forward to working closely with Gene and helping the Navitas team to realize their vision in revolutionizing the power electronics industry.”
Mr. Tan currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Cadence, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Schneider Electric and SoftBank Group. He serves on the Board of Trustees and the School of Engineering Dean’s Council at Carnegie Mellon University, is a member of the College of Engineering Advisory Board at University of California Berkeley, the Board of Global Semiconductor Alliance, and a member of The Business Council and Committee 100. He is the recipient of the 2016 GSA Morris Chang’s Exemplary Leadership Award.
Mr. Tan began his academic achievements in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics at Nanyang Technical University in Singapore, followed by a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering at MIT in 1981, and rounding off with a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco in 1983.
Navitas Semiconductor Inc. is the world’s first and only GaN Power IC company, founded in 2014. Navitas has a strong and growing team of power semiconductor industry experts with a combined 200 years of experience in materials, devices, applications, systems and marketing, plus a proven record of innovation with over 300 patents among its founders. GaN power ICs integrate GaN power (FET) with drive, control and protection to enable faster charging, higher power density and greater energy savings for mobile, consumer, enterprise, eMobility and new energy markets. Over 100 Navitas patents are issued or pending, and over 5 million GaNFast power ICs have been shipped with zero failures.
