Navitas Semiconductor today announced its participation at the Shanghai International Automobile City (SAIC) “Winnovation: Wins In Innovation” roadshow, which was held on June 28th, 2019 and hosted by SAIC Volkswagen. The roadshow focused on four emerging areas in the automotive industry: artificial intelligence (AI), network integration, new energy and information sharing. After three rounds of review over two months, 14 project teams were selected, divided into five groups: autonomous driving, intelligent networks, new energy vehicles, product optimization, and user experience optimization.
Navitas Semiconductor’s innovative Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology team stood out from hundreds of competitors, and enjoyed technical discussions with automotive experts and engineers at the SAIC Volkswagen headquarters. Yingjie (Charles) ZHA, country manager of Navitas Semiconductor (China), said, “I am very grateful to SAIC Volkswagen and Shanghai Auto City for their invitation. Through this event, Navitas had the opportunity to communicate with SAIC Volkswagen’s technical experts on the development trends of new energy vehicles and showcase Navitas’ GaNFast technology.”
At the Winnovation roadshow, Dr Bin LI, staff application engineer at Navitas reviewed On-Board Charger (OBC) and DC-DC converter technology for EV and hybrid applications: “The integration of GaN FET, GaN drive and GaN logic makes it easier for engineers to advance to high-frequency power conversion with simple EMI solutions, and new thermal optimization enables higher-power operation. With GaNFast, energy losses are reduced by 30% simultaneously with 3x-5x faster switching, resulting in 30% less size and weight, and which directly correlate to faster vehicle acceleration and extended range.”
